On August 30, 2019 Governor Newsom signed into law clean-up legislation SB 778. SB 778 delays the implementation of the new anti-harassment training requirements (SB 1343) and any refresher training until calendar year 2020. SB 778 goes into effect immediately.

Here are the key takeaways from SB 778.

  1. Training deadline moves to January 1, 2021. Extending the original deadline by one year.
  2. Employees trained in 2019, will NOT need to be trained again for 2 years.
  3. Employees trained in 2018 do NOT need to be retrained in 2019.
  4. Further clarified that all new hires shall be trained within 6-months of hire, and that employees promoted into a supervisory position must be additionally trained within 6-months of the assumption of the supervisory position.
